More anomaly-free models of six-dimensional gauged supergravity

We construct a huge number of anomaly-free models of six-dimensional N = (1,0) gauged supergravity. The gauge groups are products of U(1) and SU(2), and every hyperino is charged under some of the gauge groups. It is also found that the potential may have flat directions when the R-symmetry is diagonally gauged together with another gauge group. In an appendix, we determine the contribution to the global SU(2) anomaly from symplectic Majorana Weyl fermions in six dimensions.Comment: 20 pages, v3: published versio

Nilpotent orbits and codimension-two defects of 6d N=(2,0) theories

We study the local properties of a class of codimension-2 defects of the 6d N=(2,0) theories of type J=A,D,E labeled by nilpotent orbits of a Lie algebra \mathfrak{g}, where \mathfrak{g} is determined by J and the outer-automorphism twist around the defect. This class is a natural generalisation of the defects of the 6d theory of type SU(N) labeled by a Young diagram with N boxes. For any of these defects, we determine its contribution to the dimension of the Higgs branch, to the Coulomb branch operators and their scaling dimensions, to the 4d central charges a and c, and to the flavour central charge k.Comment: 57 pages, LaTeX2

    Six-dimensional D_N theory and four-dimensional SO-USp quivers

We realize four-dimensional N=2 superconformal quiver gauge theories with alternating SO and USp gauge groups as compactifications of the six-dimensional D_N theory with defects. The construction can be used to analyze infinitely strongly-coupled limits and S-dualities of such gauge theories, resulting in a new class of isolated four-dimensional N=2 superconformal field theories with SO(2N)^3 flavor symmetry.Comment: 30 pages, 12 figures; v2: published versio

Bifurcations and Averages in the Homoclinic Chaos of a Laser with a Saturable Absorber

The dynamical bifurcations of a laser with a saturable absorber were calculated, with the 3-2 level model, as function of the gain parameter. The average power of the laser is shown to have specific behavior at bifurcations. The succession of periodic-chaotic windows, known to occur in the homoclinic chaos, was studied numerically. A critical exponent of 1/2 is found on the tangent bifurcations from chaotic into periodic pulsations.Comment: 6 or 7 pages, 3 figures, publishe

    Four-Dimensional SCFTs from M5-Branes

We engineer a large new set of four-dimensional N=1 superconformal field theories by wrapping M5-branes on complex curves. We present new supersymmetric AdS_5 M-theory backgrounds which describe these fixed points at large N, and then directly construct the dual four-dimensional CFTs for a certain subset of these solutions. Additionally, we provide a direct check of the central charges of these theories by using the M5-brane anomaly polynomial. This is a companion paper which elaborates upon results reported in arXiv:1112:5487.Comment: 45 pages, 11 figure

N=2 SU Quiver with USP Ends or SU Ends with Antisymmetric Matter

    Get PDF
We consider the four dimensional scale invariant N=2 SU quiver gauge theories with USp(2N) ends or SU(2N) ends with antisymmetric matter representations. We argue that these theories are realized as six dimensional A_{2N-1} (0,2) theories compactified on spheres with punctures. With this realization, we can study various strongly coupled cusps in moduli space and find the S-dual theories. We find a class of isolated superconformal field theories with only odd dimensional operators D(ϕ)≥3D(\phi)\geq3 and superconformal field theories with only even dimensional operators D(ϕ)≥4D(\phi)\geq4.Comment: Minor changes are made; refrences are added; 21 pages, 18 figure

Black Hole Entropy in the presence of Chern-Simons Terms

    Get PDF
We derive a formula for the black hole entropy in theories with gravitational Chern-Simons terms, by generalizing Wald's argument which uses the Noether charge. It correctly reproduces the entropy of three-dimensional black holes in the presence of Chern-Simons term, which was previously obtained via indirect methods.Comment: v2: 12 pages, added reference

On metric geometry of conformal moduli spaces of four-dimensional superconformal theories

Conformal moduli spaces of four-dimensional superconformal theories obtained by deformations of a superpotential are considered. These spaces possess a natural metric (a Zamolodchikov metric). This metric is shown to be Kahler. The proof is based on superconformal Ward identities.Comment: 8 page
